X century. Chivalric fiction This story is based upon the legend of the first Marquis of Monferrato, Aleramo, . His mother, being unable to have children, makes a pilgrimage to Rome. She becomes pregnant and gives birth in Sezzadio, where her child is baptised with the name Aleramo. His parents leave him in Sezzadio where a nurse takes care of him. They carry on their pilgrimage, never seeing him again. Aleramo becomes a knight for the German Emperor Otto I and falls in love with his beautiful daughter Alasia. The Emperor does not allow their marriage.
